Tom Morelloら、ライヴ会場における顔認証システムの導入に反対する運動を支持

レイジ・アゲインスト・ザ・マシーンのギタリストであるトム・モレロやアマンダ・パーマー、ダウンタウン・ボーイズらはフェスティバルやコンサート会場での顔認証による監視システムを禁止するための運動への支持を表明している。

運動はアメリカを拠点とするデジタル著作権団体「ファイト・フォー・ザ・フューチャー」が現地時間9月10日に立ち上げたもので、ファンやアーティスト、公演の主催者や会場に対してライヴ・ミュージックの現場に顔認証のテクノロジーを導入することへの反対を呼びかけるものとなっている。

「ファイト・フォー・ザ・フューチャー」によるキャンペーンは、チケットマスターが先日、顔認証システムのテクノロジーに投資したことに端を発している。「ファイト・フォー・ザ・フューチャーは公式サイトで当該の顔認証システムについて「登録されていないファンや有色人種のファン、トランスジェンダーのファン、犯罪歴のあるファンが不当に拘束や嫌がらせをされ、ジャッジされるリスクに晒される」と批判している。また、「ファイト・フォー・ザ・フューチャー」は「小さなバーや会場でさえも実験が行われてきている」と指摘している。

Music fans should feel safe and respected at festivals and shows, not subjected to invasive biometric surveillance. Today we're launching a new campaign mobilizing artists, fans, and promoters to oppose the use of #facialrecognition at live music events. There's no evidence that using #FacialRecognition at festivals and concerts will keep fans safe. In fact, studies repeatedly show that mass surveillance is largely ineffective at preventing violent crimes. And the technology is currently far from accurate. If #facialrecognition is used widely at large scale events, it will put fans of color, immigrant fans, trans fans, and others at high risk of being stopped, harassed, searched, or even worse falsely arrested or deported. チケットマスターの親会社であるライヴ・ネイション・エンタテインメントは昨年、ブリンク・アイデンティティという企業とパートナーシップ契約を結んでいる。ライヴ・ネイション・エンタテインメントのCEOであるマイケル・ ラピノは当時、テキサス州オースティンを拠点としたスタートアップ企業である同企業について、「顔認証テクノロジーにおける最先端の企業であり、デジタル・チケットとお客様の写真をつなげることを用意にし、スムーズに公演にご入場いただけるようになります」と投資家に向けて説明している。
