MTVビデオ・ミュージック・アウォーズは2020年のノミネーションが発表されている。
レディー・ガガの最新作『クロマティック』に収録されているアリアナ・グランデとのコラボレーション“Rain On Me”は最優秀ビデオ賞、最優秀楽曲賞、最優秀コラボレーション賞、最優秀ポップ・ビデオ賞、最優秀撮影賞、最優秀視覚効果賞、最優秀振付賞の7部門にノミネートされている。
ミーガン・ジー・スタリオンも“Savage”で最優秀アーティスト賞、最優秀楽曲賞、最優秀ヒップホップ・ビデオ賞といった複数部門にノミネートされている。ジュース・ワールドは1998年のノトーリアスB.I.G.以来となる形で死後に最優秀ビデオ賞にノミネートされている。エミネムとの“Godzilla”のミュージック・ビデオは最優秀ヒップホップ・ビデオ賞にもノミネートされている。
昨年3部門を授賞したビリー・アイリッシュも複数部門でノミネートされており、“everything i wanted”が最優秀ビデオ賞、最優秀楽曲賞にノミネートされており、“all the good girls go to hell”が技術部門で複数ノミネートされている。
今年は部門にもいくつか大きな変更があり、最優秀ダンス・ビデオ賞がなくなって、1998年以来となる形で最優秀オルタナティヴ・ビデオ賞が復活しており、ザ・1975、ラナ・デル・レイ、フィニアスらがノミネートされている。
加えて、新型コロナウイルスの影響で2部門が新設されている。最優秀ビデオ・フロム・ホーム賞と最優秀クアランティン・パフォーマンス賞で、前者にはアリアナ・グランデとジャスティン・ビーバーによる“Stuck With U”やドレイクの“Toosie Slide”がノミネートされている。
最後は最優秀新人アーティスト賞と最優秀MTV PUSHアーティスト賞が統合されて一つの部門になっており、ロビー・リッチ、ドージャ・キャット、ヤングブラッド、ルイス・キャパルディ、テート・マクレーがノミネートされている。
授賞式については先月、ニューヨーク州知事のアンドリュー・クオモによって許可が出されており、「無観客ないしは限定の観客」で開催される。
「アウォーズのプロデューサーはバークレイズ・センターの事務所と共に、関わるすべての人に最善の策を施すために州や地元当局と密接に取り組んでいます」とMTVによる声明では述べられている。「包括的なソーシャル・ディスタンスの実行や有効な収容人数の制限、構成要素のオンライン化を含め、すべての陣営が基準に従います」
授賞式は8月30日にバークレイズ・センターで開催される。
