2019年のMTVビデオ・ミュージック・アウォーズの授賞式が現地時間8月26日にニューアークのプルデンシャル・センターで開催され、アリアナ・グランデ、テイラー・スウィフト、ビリー・アイリッシュ、リル・ナズ・X、カーディ・Bらが賞を受賞している。
今年のMTVビデオ・ミュージック・アウォーズはテイラー・スウィフトとアリアナ・グランデが10部門で最多ノミネートとなっており、ビリー・アイリッシュが9部門、リル・ナズ・Xが8部門のノミネートとなっていた。リル・ナズ・Xはうち7部門がヒット曲“Old Town Road (Remix)”でのノミネートとなっている。
テイラー・スウィフト、アリアナ・グランデ、ビリー・アイリッシュがこの日の最多受賞者となっており、ビリー・アイリッシュは最優秀新人賞、プッシュ・アーティスト・オブ・ザ・イヤー賞、“bad guy”のビデオによる最優秀編集賞という3つの賞を受賞している。テイラー・スウィフトは“You Need To Calm Down”のビデオで最優秀ビデオ賞とビデオ・フォー・グッド賞を受賞し、“ME!”のビデオで最優秀ヴィジュアル・エフェクツ賞を受賞している。一方、アリアナ・グランデはアーティスト・オブ・ザ・イヤー賞、“7 rings”のビデオによる最優秀アート・ディレクション賞、“Boyfriend”でソング・オブ・サマー賞を受賞している。
ミッシー・エリオットは栄えあるビデオ・ヴァンガード賞を受賞し、授賞式ではマイリー・サイラスやリゾ、ロザリア、リル・ナズ・X、ノーマニ、テイラー・スウィフトらがパフォーマンスを行っている。
