プリンスは名作『1999』が未発表トラック35曲を追加して再発されることが決定している。
“1999”、“Little Red Corvette”、“Automatic”といった楽曲を収録している『1999』だが、リマスターされて、追加曲を収録した再発盤は11月29日に発売される。これはプリンスの遺産管理団体とワーナーの提携によってのリリースとなる。
10枚のLPないしは5CDとDVDによるスーパー・デラックス・エディション、2CDないしは4LPのデラックス・エディション、1CDないしは2LPのスタンダード・エディションが発売される。
スーパー・デラックス・エディションのDVDには1982年にヒューストン・サミットで開催されたライヴを収録した未発表の映像が収録される。さらにスーパー・デラックス・エディションには1981年11月から1983年1月に収録された23の未発表トラックと『1999』ツアーのライヴ音源が収録される。
さらに本作にはプリンスによる手書きの歌詞が掲載されるほか、プリンスの80年代のフォトグラファーだったアレン・ボーリューによる貴重な写真も掲載される。
